Under professional direction, an Operations Manger is responsible for planning, organizing and managing Traffic, News and Production departments. Provides highly responsible administrative assistance and technical support to General Manager. Carry out any other related work as directed or required.
Distinguishing Characteristics: This position is distinctive from other management positions in that you must know, operate and perform thoroughly in news, production and traffic as well as make in-person appearances for clients. You must perform and understand a vast amount of computer software, functions and procedures, including but not limited to the traffic and production systems, light engineering and news operations as well as the overall responsibility for directing operations and maintenance duties.
Examples of Duties/Functions:
Maintaining inspection-ready FCC public files on a quarterly basis
Keep Issues Needs up to date before the end of each quarter
Maintain clearance affidavits for all network providers every 30 days
Maintain open communications with all networks (AZ Sky, ABC, Jones, FOX & InfoTrak)
Maintain clearance affidavits radars every quarter for ABC affiliate
Record, transfer Sunday Affairs programming to all stations weekly
Maintain, operate and schedule EAS reports
Log EAS messages weekly and track Monthly alerts
Enter Network schedules through Smart Rate per barter
Enter FOX clearance forms weekly for proof of performance through their system
Adjust, maintain and reprogram stations through computer templates
Monitor and solve various problems within computer systems in place
Maintain and check live broadcasting equipment
Maintain all department computer systems
Maintain all On Air systems
Proof and submit or return Production Orders to various production companies
Handle all communication between sales team and production houses
Provide weather forecasts for all stations
Maintain PSA schedules and orders for all stations
Run Music logs for new coming station in Natural Music
Assist Traffic department in entering contracts and running logs in NatLog system
Process orders through production to ensure ads are transferred to on air.
Verify that all daily logs have been thoroughly checked for errors and posted to the intranet system through production department
Assign work duties to various departments
Monitor work flow of other departments and review and evaluate all employees on a 120 day basis
Make necessary changes to improve automation process of BSI Simian
Attend Quarterly meetings to review, evaluate progress of ongoing changes within the company
Prepare and present various reports as needed
Prepare and present weekly Friday report
Interview and hire new staff for News, Traffic and/or Production departments
Approve time off for News, Traffic and/or Production departments
Monitor and participate in employee relations between the News, traffic, and production departments
Repair systems in off air emergency
Communicate with engineer regarding changes, transmitter power failures and other various problems
Understand, monitor and change RDBS
Perform other related tasks and duties as requested.
Minimum Qualifications: 5 years experience in all programming departments in broadcast; excellent computer, written, and communication skills; ability to speak in public; good people skills; organization is a must; flexible and able to work as needed and on-call; familiar with office environment; fluent in Microsoft applications (Power Point, Outlook, Access, Word, Excel); ability to use computer software programs like databases, web based programs, reporting and scheduling software, and broadcast automation software; familiar with FCC terms & rules; able to lift at least 50 lbs; High School graduate with some college preferred.
Ability To: Work independently while overseeing other departments, maintain flexible schedule (nights and weekends); able to operate editing software as well as radio automation programs and scheduling software; knowledge of digital and analog audio equipment; keep in compliance with FCC rules; able to communicate orally with good annunciation; write grammatically correct; take constructive criticism; fill in when needed in case of employee absence or emergency; report directly to General Manager
Experience: 2 years minimum in Traffic Department; 2 years minimum in Production and on-air; 2 years minimum in News; at least 3 years broadcast management experience.
